Professional baseball LG Twins pitcher Shim Chang-min (32) will try to make a comeback in a stripe uniform.

At the LG team's New Year's greeting held on the 8th, Shim Chang-min said, "I'm so happy to have another opportunity and I'm honored to join the LG Twins. Personally, it was a little bad, but I want to show you a transformation, and I'll try to create a small emblem under the LG Twins flag." 

Shim Chang-min said, "The team that wins the Korean Series wears the championship emblem under the team flag. I tried to say 'I'll do my best,' but I used my vocabulary to say that. I will help my team win the championship."

Shim Chang-min played a must-win role during the Samsung Dynasty, but fell into a sharp slump after being traded to NC. He was notified of his release at the end of the 2024 season, and later took a test at LG and took a new opportunity. 

Shim Chang-min joined Samsung in the 2011 draft as the fourth overall pick in the first round. He made his debut in the first division in 2012 by throwing 150 kilometers of fastballs as a sidearm pitcher. He contributed to Samsung's overall championship from 2012 to 2014, and made 25 saves in 2016 as the closing pitcher. He was the mainstay of the bullpen, recording six saves and 16 holds in 2017 and 17 saves and five holds in 2018. 

In the first year of his transfer, he pitched in only 11 games in 2022, and displayed sluggish performance with one win and two losses and 14.21 ERA (10 earned runs in six ⅓ innings). In 2023, he pitched in only five games (three ⅓ innings) in the first division. His ball control was very poor. He pitched in 32 games and 30 ⅓ innings in the second division, and allowed as many as 62 walks. His ERA was 10.38, which was sluggish. In 2024, he could not even play in a single game in the first division, and failed to make a comeback in the second division with an ERA of 8.84. He was released after the season. 

Shim Chang-min said, "My second child was born two days before the release, so I was personally busy. I was contacted by LG and asked to postpone the test period, and we trained together for about a week in the closing camp," referring to the process of joining the team after the test. 

Shim Chang-min said, "It feels different from when I moved to NC in a trade. I was very happy when I joined LG, but I liked it because I didn't feel unfamiliar with the team's atmosphere during the training. I felt that it would suit me well. I felt that LG's culture fits me well."

Shim Chang-min was not in a hurry even though he was determined to be the last chance. "I think it's my last chance. I feel more comfortable after being released once. I think I'll feel at ease thinking 'let's do it comfortably' and 'let's think about the outcome later'," he said with a smile. "I think I'll be at ease regardless of whether I'm good at it or not. Regardless of what I'm doing well, let's do it without regrets, I feel light-hearted." 

I was sluggish due to injuries at NC, but my ball control was a big problem. Shim Chang-min identified the cause of his own and showed confidence to improve. Shim said, "My pitching balance is a unique balance. Before moving to NC, I had coaches and seniors who knew my style well. When I was in a bad situation, I could find my own. I changed my mind to an open mind as I went from a place that knew me well to another place." 

However, he said, "As the living environment changed, I personally got confused, injured, and I think there was a lot of pressure to throw it worse. It was a time before the FA, and I heard that if you are too greedy, you become an overhead. NC is a team that uses a lot of data. I like data, too. However, as I value data first, and then data, my own sense collapsed. I came out of NC to build my body and did it without data, so I improved by prioritizing my senses and focusing on my senses," he explained. 

He changed his workout regimen, lost 5-6 kilograms, and is in good physical condition. "Shim Chang-min is also an experienced athlete. I thought he could make full use of it during the test period," coach Yeom Kyung-yeop said. "I think I will do well now that I am born as a second child."
